Our Lady of Fátima (Portuguese: Nossa Senhora de Fátima, formally known

as Our Lady of the Holy Rosary of Fátima is a Catholic title of the Blessed Virgin

Mary based on the famed Marian Apparitions reported in 1917 by three shepherd

children at the Coya da Iria, in Fatima Portugal. The three children were Lucia dos

Santos and her cousins Francisco and Jacinta Marto.

The establishment of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Parish cannot be isolated from

the rapid growth and development of Ongata Rongai Township in Ngong Division of

Kajiado County. In the late 80s and early 90s, the township witnessed a rapid growth

and a large movement by people from different parts of Kenya, becoming such a

metropolitan. At the time, there was only one Catholic Church serving the large and

growing number of Catholics in the area – St Mary’s Catholic Church. Under the

stewardship of the Comboni Missionaries, St Mary’s Church was providing pastoral

care to the people in and around Rongai area under various local out stations and

Church groups. This is how Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church/Parish came to

be:

The decree to establish Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Parish was issued and signed

by Right Rev Bishop John Oballa Owaa on 22nd December, 2013. Fr. John Orenge was

appointed the first Parish Priest. He served for five years until when he handed over

on 28th June 2019 to Fr. Anthony Ndung’u, the current Parish Priest. The Parish was

created within the following boundaries: Mandela Road, Quarry Road all through

Saitoti Road, Hospital Road close to Mbagathi Road, Olkeri Road, and Kandisi Road,

Magadi Road to Acacia Road, and comprising St. Andrew’s Nkai Murunya and Our

Lady of Fatima.
